Seasonal Shift in Storm Surges at Brest Revealed by Extreme Value Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Global warming changes the Earth's climate in different ways, particular it influences extreme weather events like storms. Strong storms cause large surges and thus have a signature sea level record. While previous studies focused on long-term of storm surge amplitude or frequency, timing not been investigated so far. We employed more than 150 yr long tide gauge record Brest (France) found distinct shift between years 1950 2000. This caused to happen about three weeks earlier during year. developed for this study two methods based statistical value analysis; both show seasons consistently. Furthermore, by analyzing eight additional stations, we evidence that happened similarly over part European Atlantic coast. Therefore, speculate our measured is large-scale process.

Forests cover about 56% of the land area in Sweden and forest damage due to strong winds has been a recurring problem. In this paper we analyse recorded storm damage in Swedish forests for the years 1965–2007. During the period 48 individual storm events with a total damage of 164 Mm3 have been reported with the severe storm on 8 to 9 January 2005, as the worst with 70 Mm3 damaged forest. For t...
متن کاملCorrigendum: A global reanalysis of storm surges and extreme sea levels
Extreme sea levels, caused by storm surges and high tides, can have devastating societal impacts. To effectively protect our coasts, global information on coastal flooding is needed. Here we present the first global reanalysis of storm surges and extreme sea levels (GTSR data set) based on hydrodynamic modelling. GTSR covers the entire world's coastline and consists of time series of tides and ...
متن کاملNonlinear chaotic model for predicting storm surges
This paper addresses the use of the methods of nonlinear dynamics and chaos theory for building a predictive chaotic model from time series. The chaotic model predictions are made by the adaptive local models based on the dynamical neighbors found in the reconstructed phase space of the observables. We implemented the univariate and multivariate chaotic models with direct and multi-steps predic...

cated on the coast and 44% of the world’s population lives within 150 km of the ocean.1 Unfortunately, coastal regions are often low-lying and thus susceptible to an increase in seasurface elevation. A storm surge is a potentially devastating rise in the sea surface caused by extratropical cyclones or by tropical cyclones such as hurricanes and typhoons. Surges can lead to large loss of human l...
